Congratulations! You're finally taking the plunge and opening your own meditation or yoga studio! You've been dreaming about it for a long time and you want it to be perfect.

Of course, there's a lot to consider, from interior design and decor to planning classes, accessories, and amenities... You want everything to reflect your vision and intent for this unique space.
When it comes to interior design and amenities, we have what you need.
Here are some design tips for creating the most welcoming meditation room and what to consider when choosing your meditation accessories.
Create a Soothing Meditation Space

Color Palette and Textures: In interior design, colors have a big impact on how we experience space and how it affects our nervous system. If you like neutral and natural colors, options like oak or walnut wood floors will warm the room in a nature-inspired way. White, gray, and cream are perfect tones for painting walls, as they are calming and gently reflect light. If you prefer color, always choose a lighter shade.
Lighting: While it's not always possible, indirect natural light is ideal for any space. So, if you're building from scratch, let your meditation space be lit by windows. This is easy on the eyes and enhances everything. If artificial lighting is your only option, choose fixtures that cast a diffused, dim light, and opt for warm bulbs (2000 to 3000 K).
Plants: People come to your meditation studio to experience deep relaxation and a break from their urban lives. Adding plants like spider plants or ferns will not only decorate the room but also improve the air quality.
Decorative Accessories: Accents are the best way to add texture and depth to a Zen space without breaking the bank. Woven jute baskets, clay or stone vases, wooden or metal shelves, linen curtains, wall hangings, coffee table books... Accents make a space come alive.
Aromatherapy: This is one of our favorite and most underexplored assets for a pleasant meditation studio experience. Scent is the sense that can take you on a journey; it can be so calming and enjoyable to walk into a space that smells great. Natural scented candles, palo santo, incense—use all of these to create a sensory experience for your visitors that they'll keep coming back for.
What Accessories Should You Have in Your Meditation & Yoga Studio?
Meditation Cushions: This may seem obvious, but it's not the case for everyone. Many people don't realize they need meditation cushions until they use them. You can meditate without them, of course, but sitting for a long time will in most cases result in numb or sore feet. Meditation cushions are designed to improve posture, release tension in the lower back and knees by elevating the hips. They provide cushioning for pressure points like the toes, ankles, and knees.

Sound Healing Futons : If you plan to hold sound baths or yoga nidra sessions, practicing on a futon will transform your visitors' experience. Futons provide comfortable support for the entire body, allowing for total relaxation.

Eye Masks: A favorite accessory, the eye mask is the key to deep relaxation. Filled with flax and lavender seeds, this mask has several benefits: it covers the eyes from surrounding light, allowing the mind to enter a deep state of relaxation. The weight of the seeds applies gentle pressure to the eyes, which enhances relaxation. In aromatherapy, lavender is used to reduce anxiety and improve sleep quality. This accessory, used during shavasana and sound baths, is essential for taking your clients on a soothing sensory journey.

Yoga Cushions : Yoga cushions are commonly used in Iyengar yoga, Yin yoga, and restorative yoga. If you plan on holding these classes in your studio, you absolutely must have this yoga prop. When lying down, having a cushion under your knees will add comfort to your lower back and knees. In restorative yoga, cushions allow you to gently enter and maintain difficult opening or stretching positions, taking the body to the next level without the risk of injury.

Blankets: As the body relaxes during these healing sessions, the temperature drops slightly, which may make you feel cold. Having meditation blankets will ensure that your clients can truly enjoy the practice without discomfort, especially during the winter.
