About Our Founder
Born and raised in Rabat, Morocco, Chama El Ajmi grew up in a family of architects, sparking her initial interest in design. Naturally, she decided to pursue studies in Interior Design after high school. Returning to her home country in 2014, she took on interior decoration projects where she learned more about upholstery, woodworking, and textiles, while simultaneously founding Atelier Cocon, specializing in decorative cushions.
At the age of 25, she flew to the United States to pursue a degree in Business, marking the beginning of a transformative journey for her. During her three years in Los Angeles, she learned to sew and continued to design collections of decorative cushions, which she sold on Etsy and at craft markets.
Being away from her Moroccan-French culture while navigating a more individualistic environment helped her develop new interests such as photography and mindfulness practices. Chama spent her days off consciously wandering the city, photographing nature details, and engaging in deep introspection.
In March 2020, the lockdown symbolized the peak of this transformative cycle, presenting an opportunity to fully engage in breathwork, meditation, and yoga practices. With days filled with mindfulness routines, she cocooned herself and molded herself into the next version of herself.
In July 2020, she returned to Morocco and contemplated how to share, through her design work, the beauty and healing power of living mindfully. Thus, the idea was born to combine design and mindfulness by creating cushions and accessories that support yoga and meditation practices.
After 8 months of research and development, she launched her first collection of mindfulness cushions and accessories in March 2021, which she named "Inner Space"
